We had another fun-filled weekend with our visitors Rick and Emily. They flew in on Thursday morning. Unfortunately, Kyle was in Illinois for work until Friday night, but it gave me the opportunity to play tour guide for the first couple of days. Here’s our weekend recap:
Thursday: I gave them a tour of the house, and then we enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Iron Hill Brewery. After lunch, we took a walk around town and checked out the local Farmer’s Market where we enjoyed tasting some cupcakes, ice cream, and guacamole. We hung out at the house watching some Olympics before heading to get some Mexican for dinner near Kyle’s office.
Friday: We went on the official tour of Philly. Of course, it was another roasty toasty day! We started with brunch the Amish way at the Reading Terminal Market. We made our way through Chinatown before stopping at the Liberty Bell, Old City Hall, Independence Hall, and Congress Hall. We had some excellent tour guides, and I even learned a few new things. We then headed to Old City to check out Besty Ross’s house, Elfreth’s Alley, and Christ Church. At that point, it was time for a break to cool off and get something to eat. We stopped at National Mechanics for a tasty lunch before heading out of the city to pick up Kyle at the airport. Friday night we hung at the house and ordered Kyle’s favorite – Pinocchio’s pizza. Or as it is now known Pinochino’s pizza (right, Em?).
Saturday: We had a pretty “chill” day. We headed to Custom Bagel for breakfast. The boys were hungry a couple of hours later, so we headed into Stephen’s to share several appetizers. We watched a lot of Olympics and relaxed most of the afternoon. Emily and I got a little restless, so we headed out to do a little shopping. To our surprise, a small party started while we were gone, so we quickly joined in on the fun. We enjoyed spending the evening playing games and eating even more pizza.
Sunday: We headed back into the city for lunch at Shake Shack and took a stroll into Center City to check out Comcast Center and Love Park. We also drove past the Art Museum to catch a quick glimpse of Rocky and around South Philly to see the stadiums. Before we knew it, it was time to head to the airport. Unfortunately, their flight was delayed due to some untimely storms, but they finally made it back to Chi-town.
It was so much fun to spend time with Kyle’s brother and sister-in-law – we had such a nice visit. Thanks for coming, Rick and Em!
