2.9.12 – Mexican food fail

10 Feb

So last night Kyle humored me to try the Mexican restaurant in town, Dos Gringos.  He isn’t a huge fan of Mexican food, but I had a hankering for some chips and queso and my usual tacos, rice, and beans.  Much to our surprise -this place was not your typical Fiesta Ranchera (for the BloNo folks) or Don Panchos (for the K-town folks).  Let’s just say it was missing the authentic vibe.  First of all, no queso on the menu.  (WHAT!?)  Sure they had a variety of salsas and guacamole, but I wanted some cheese! 🙂  I decided I could live with that fact, and we decided to try their cheesey sausage appetizer dip.  It was OK, but it was no white cheese sauce.  While we waited, I decided to search the menu for my Combo #10 – two tacos, rice, and beans.  Unfortunately, most of the menu items were really fancy sounding, included some ingredients I hadn’t hear of, and were over $17.00 a plate.  Needless to say, we both ordered off of the kid’s menu for an additional $2.00 charge each.  The food we did order was pretty good. They did have a BYOT (Bring Your Own Tequila) policy, which was interesting.  It was the first time I felt like a boring Midwestern girl in an uptown restaurant who just couldn’t hang with the foodies.  Guess we should have just gone to Taco Bell… but we haven’t given up hope on finding our “Fiesta” – we’ll keep you posted. 🙂
