3.24-28.12 – A Visit from the Bobbitts: Part I

25 Mar

This past weekend we anxiously awaited the arrival of our BFF’s from BloNo.  Tracy, Kyle, and Baby Bobbitt (BB) arrived on Saturday night, and we enjoyed showing them around and catching up over dinner at our place.  Our time with them was so action-packed that I have decided to split it into three posts.

Sunday was our first day of adventure.  Despite the gray skies and cooler weather, we set out for Philly.  Our day started a little scary when we were behind a car on the interstate whose wheel completely came off the axle!  We stopped to make sure they were OK, and then set off for the Please Touch Children’s Museum.  It is housed in a beautiful old building called Memorial Hall that was the first home of the Art Museum and hosted the 1876 World Fair.  We had so much fun watching BB (almost 14 months old) run around and explore.  I had fun trying to practice my photography skills and capture the day, which proved to be quite a challenge!  BB moves fast. 🙂

After the children’s museum, we headed to the Philly Art Museum for the Rocky experience.  We snapped some pics with the Rocky statue, and the Bobbitt family ran the infamous steps.

At that point, it was time (or past time) for lunch!  We ate at Marra’s in South Philly.  The consensus was that the pizza was quite delicious but the pasta left something to be desired.  We had just enough room to try some desserts at Varallo Brothers Bakery in South Philly.  I had never ventured into an Italian bakery before, and I didn’t know many of the desserts. However, our treats were quite delicious.  We made a quick stop at Katie and Kevin’s place to see their new digs and meet their new puppy before heading back to Old City.

It was evening at this point.  Since it was Sunday, many of the local historic sites had closed up shop.  We still walked around to check out the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Ben Franklin’s grave, Betsy Ross’s house, and Christ Church from the outside before calling it a day.  Here are some pics from our first day of adventure:
