4.29.13 – Goodbye, April Showers!

29 Apr

Sunny + Warm + Cool Breeze = Perfection!

Today I was remembering how I felt on those cold, wintery days-and more recently-on the days it seemed like it had been raining forever. I wished for a day like today. Here’s hoping it finally sticks around…

Delaney and I enjoyed a walk and some playtime outside. And of course I couldn’t miss a photo shoot opportunity… 🙂 And I’m pretty glad I did – the grass is soo green!

Poor thing… I don’t think she goes a day without getting a picture taken of her. Hope y’all enjoyed some sunshine too!

4.28.13 – Weekend Wrap-up

28 Apr

We spent most of this weekend in Indiana visiting family and friends. Spending time with them always makes my heart happy. 🙂

First, we tried to catch some of Jacob’s soccer game. Unfortunately, we only got to see the very end due to some untimely traffic on the interstate. Kyle and I felt like we were on a NASCAR warm-up lap following the policeman who was acting as a pace car for about 20 miles at 30 mph. We were finally allowed to pass the oversized-load semi after some impatient remarks on my part. 😉

The game was followed by lunch, birthday cake, and hanging at my brother’s house. Proud to say I was on the winning team in Euchre for both games. Probably debatable whether that is luck or skill on my part. The boys enjoyed an exciting Bulls victory. And best of all Laney slept like a champ in her pack-n-play! Not sure if it was the practicing, mattress, room-darkening curtains, or all of the above… but we will have further testing during our busy travel schedule the next few weeks.

Today, we enjoyed getting sucked into too many home improvement shows on HGTV while it was rainy outside. And I got to visit with my two besties and their adorable little ones. My initial idea of putting the little ones by a window for more light didn’t produce the best pictures. Getting them all to look at the same time proved impossible let alone getting them to turn at an angle to prevent shadows on their faces. Then someone had the brilliant idea to take the pictures through the window, which produced a couple of keepers. Better luck and planning on my part next time…but you get the idea of how adorable these four are. So excited to watch them grow up together!

Here are a few pics from the weekend:

It was a wonderful, relaxing weekend! I’m excited for all of the fun in store for us during this busy month of May. Thank you, Ryan and Kyla for hosting us! Love you all!

4.22.13 – Weekend Wrap-up

22 Apr

Happy Monday, everyone! It’s shaping up to be a beautiful day here in Central Illinois. Delaney and I will be doing our happy dance in the sunshine for sure!

We had another fabulous weekend that went by too quickly (as usual). Our weekend included a fun parents-night-out dinner at Biaggi’s with some friends, a visit from Nana and Papa, running/climbing, and some work around the house. Here’s a little more about what we have been up to lately:

First, my pantry went from this:

to this:

Organization always makes me happy. 🙂

I also created a “Christmas Through the Years Album” starting with the first Christmas Kyle and I were dating. I got the idea from Harvard Homemaker here. It is already fun to look through our seven Christmases together, so I know it will be even more fun 10-20 years from now. We will just add a page each year as our family grows. My next project is a recipe binder. 🙂

We learned that Delaney HATES green beans (much to my disappointment – I love me some green beans):

But she seems to like tolerate peaches and a banana-kiwi concoction I cooked up for her, so maybe she will like some fruit after all?

She also has started making friends with her pack n play:

We purchased this mattress for it, and it seems to be doing the trick. The true test will be this weekend.

Finally, Laney has been workin’ on her fitness:

Looks like she will be crawling back squatting in no time. 😉

Hope everyone has a great week!

Sunshine. Family. Laughter. Love.

We couldn’t ask for more. Hope y’all found a little sunshine this weekend!

Thanks Great Grandma, Great Grandpa, Great Aunt Carol, Mimi, and Annie for coming to visit us yesterday! We love you!

4.12.13 – 7 Months Old

12 Apr

Our sweet baby girl is 7 months old today! Quite a bit has changed in the last month. Playtime is getting more fun by the day!

When we went to the doctor at 6 1/2 months, she weighed 20 lbs 4 oz (97%); her length was 26 1/4″ (60%); and her head size was 17.5″ (90%). She is quickly growing out of her 6-9 months clothes and fits in a lot of her 9-12 month clothes already (depending on the brand). She has a third tooth now – surprisingly on the bottom again. Her hair is growing like crazy and likes to stick straight up in the back. Looks like she has Daddy’s hair so far.

She is starting to really reach and lean for toys which causes her to tumble over from her sitting position. At first, this would result in crying, but now she has learned to get on her belly and roll herself onto her back. She has started to wiggle and move her legs while on her belly but no scooting yet.

She has figured out how to drink water out of her sippy cup by herself, which she loves. Probably loves it a little too much, because she gets going a little too fast and water ends up all over her bib. We’ve started giving her puffs in small pieces and she seems to like “chewing” them, but hasn’t figured out how to feed them to herself yet (probably because I break them up into too small of pieces for her to grab). She still isn’t a fan of any fruits yet but is starting to enjoy her peach yogurt and still loves her veggies. We are up to three meals a day this week, and it is going pretty well.

Laney still loves her stacking cups and anything with a tag. She also really likes opening and closing her picnic basket and playing with her animal puzzle. She is still great at entertaining herself but loves having company. She still loves songs with hand motions and when we play “I’m gonna get you…” She is fascinated by bubbles. She has started babbling (ma-ma, ba-ba, ra-ra, dada), which is the cutest. Sometimes she moves her mouth like she is babbling with no sound, which cracks us up.

We’ve recently experienced a little separation anxiety. Laney decided she was scared to be in her front-facing stroller when she can’t see us, and she has started crying when we leave her for naps and bedtime. We’ve started giving her a little security blanket, which seems to be helping. Loud noises still really startle her – probably the result of being in a quiet house with Mom all day. We also discovered she is not a fan of the pack n play when we travel, so we are going to have to start practicing sleeping in that.

Laney is still a very happy, content baby. I can’t say enough how much joy she brings us. It is so amazing how much she learns and changes each day. She wants to get into everything, so I’m good with her staying put just a little while longer. 🙂 But interacting with her is so much fun!

4.10.13 – Welcome Baby RJ!

10 Apr

As I mentioned in my previous post, our new nephew made a surprise early appearance last Friday (4 weeks early!). He is a healthy, adorable bundle of joy! And he is definitely no preemie! It was so awesome to see our brother and sister-in-law experience the miracle of bringing a new tiny person into the world. Watching them caused us to relive our own experience – the state of blissful exhaustion and the utter joy of watching your family love on your new addition. He is beautiful, Rick and Emily! We are so excited to be Uncle Kyle and Aunt Jamie, and Laney can’t wait until he is big enough to play!

Here are some pictures of our very special visit with the newest Richard Pott (plus a pic of the wreath and mobile I made for him):

4.7.13 – Emily’s Baby Shower

7 Apr

For the last couple of months, my mother-in-law and I have been preparing a baby shower for Kyle’s sister-in-law, Emily. I had lots of fun creating decorations, centerpieces, favors, etc. and was anticipating the big day. However, my little nephew decided to make an early appearance two days before the shower. We were thrilled to find out he was a boy and meet him sooner than expected, but we were a little bummed Emily wouldn’t be able to be physically present at the shower. It was nothing a little technology couldn’t fix. Emily and Rick were able to be a part of the celebration through Skype just a couple of hours after they arrived home from the hospital.

We had some yummy food and cake, played a little bingo, wrote wishes for Baby RJ, and opened gifts. It was so great to see family and friends and celebrate the newest addition to our family! Thank you all for joining us!
