7.12.13 – 10 Months Old

12 Jul
Another month has flown by! The past month was filled with lots of summer fun. Delaney experienced her first swim, beach trip, and music class, and she loved all three! She actually turned 10 months old on our 5-year anniversary while we were on our Wagner family vacation trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina (which is why this is a couple of days late). She flew on an airplane for the first time since she was 3 months old, and she was such a trooper! I have been going to Hilton Head almost every summer since I was a little girl, and I was so excited for her to experience one of my favorite places. She had so much fun being with Grandpa, Mimi, and her aunts and uncles. She loved splashing in the tide pools at low tide, swimming in the baby pool, going for walks on the beach, and being a little ham at dinner.
She now has eight teeth! I love her big open-mouthed, toothy grin. Her hair keeps growing longer and longer. She went to the doctor when she was 9 1/2 months old and she weighed 22 lbs 13 oz (95%), were 28 inches long (75%), and her head circumference was 18 3/4 in (>97%).
She still isn’t mobile yet. Although, she definitely is getting a stronger desire to go places. Laney always want up (lifting her arms in the air); or saying eh, eh, eh when she wants something; or she tries to wiggle out of our arms when she wants down. She can roll around really easily in her crib, but she doesn’t do it as much during play time. She is getting much better at standing while holding onto something, but she still isn’t a huge fan. She used to stick her legs straight out parallel to the ground when we tried to get her to stand, but she will appease us for a little while now. We are making progress. 🙂
We’ve started weaning her off formula, which immediately increased her food intake. She also started table foods. She loves pieces of bread, pancake, avocado, and banana. She also likes eggs and refried beans. She is definitely opinionated about what she eats these days. Laney lets us know if she is unhappy with a food by shaking her head no or swatting the spoon away (and sending food flying). She has become a huge fan of her peach yogurt, but she still likes her other favorites as well most of the time. We usually have to have some foods she can feed herself in front of her while trying to spoon-feed her. The, “I want to do it myself” phase has begun. 🙂
She is definitely turning into a little ham. She likes to smile, wave, and play peek-a-boo at strangers. She still loves music, and she starts dancing when she is feeling a song. “Get Down on It,” reggae, and mariachi music got her moving on vacation. Clapping is still a favorite activity – especially when other people join in on the fun. Laney loves flapping her arms when she is excited like she is flying. Lately, she has started sticking her tongue out when she looks at herself in the mirror. She also puts her lower lip up over her top lip and stick her chin out when she is being silly. I love how she crosses her ankles when she is sitting in a chair. She also has a feisty side too. She has a fake cry when she is really tired but doesn’t want to go to bed. She has a little tantrum of throwing herself back, shaking her head, and kicking her legs when she doesn’t get her way, and she is very opinionated about what she eats and where she plays these days. But most of the time she is our smiley, snuggly, sweet, fun baby girl who gives us lots of hugs and kisses. And we love her all of the time!
