11.29.15 – Trimming the Tree

1 Dec

I LOVE Christmas. It is my favorite holiday, and it has become infinitely better since having a child of my own. Like I mentioned in my Halloween post, Laney is at an awesome age for the holiday season. Decorating the tree was no exception. Since the spider incident of the early 90’s, my family has always had a fake Christmas tree. Maybe one year I will get brave and try a “real tree,” but until then unfolding the pre lit tree seems like a lot less work (especially with a toddler).

She was super excited when I brought the decor upstairs and immediately dove into a dress-up opportunity.

Then she thought the tree box was the most exciting part.

She was overjoyed at putting on the Christmas star (in part to a Christmas Paw Patrol episode).

And she took her job at hanging the ornaments very seriously!

We had one ornament casualty that nearly broke her heart – mostly because it was also star shaped. Luckily, it wasn’t an ornament of any special meaning, so I told her we would “fix it later.” (AKA throw it in the trash later)

Our elf, Snowflake, made her first appearance on December 1. She was pretty excited, a little confused, and a smidge scared. The second day was definitely our most elaborate set-up, but by then she was loving it – unless Snowflake was touching her stuff. She immediately wanted her marker, sand, marshmallow, etc. back.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
