11.30.17 – Deck the Halls

30 Nov

Laney has been begging to decorate for Christmas since we were on our way home from our Thanksgiving travels. She assumed Christmas came immediately after Thanksgiving and now has a very serious countdown going. She was PUMPED we agreed to decorate last night. Decorating was a little more chaotic this year, but it was an overall success. We had only one non-edible item consumed – surprisingly, Greyson was not the culprit this time. And even more surprisingly, the boys have been very chill with the tree so far! The halls are decked just in time to start out Advent calendar countdown tomorrow. It’s shaping up to be the best Christmas yet!

12.10.16 – Twin Nursery

10 Dec

As of this morning, the twins’ nursery is officially complete! We were waiting on the new chair we ordered, which arrived Monday but wasn’t working (we have the worst luck with furniture). The tech fixed it this morning, and we are excited to share the final result!

Early on, Kyle and I talked about incorporating Shel Silverstein poems in the nursery. We both grew up reading his poems and have read them to Laney since she was a baby. This got me thinking about a black-and-white color scheme, and it kinda took off from there. Once we knew we were having boys, we decided to incorporate a bit of a wilderness/adventure theme too.

My favorite part of the room is, of course, the awesome wood wall Kyle and my father-in-law installed for me. 🙂 Kyle and my dad also did a great job painting the dark grey walls, and I love how they contrast the lighter wood wall and furniture. I also love the tree stump end table Kyle made out of a stump from an old pine tree in my parents’ backyard. I think it is a space that we can tweak as the boys get older and will grow with them.

The room does not get a ton of light, which will hopefully be great for sleeping babies but is not so great for pictures. But here is a peek at the room and the boys’ names (or initials anyway). 🙂

I hope the boys love their room for years to come!

If you’re interested, here is where I shopped:

I did a lot of spray painting to get things to coordinate. 🙂

12.23.15 – Merry Christmas Eve Eve!

23 Dec

“Only two more sleeps!” said a certain little toddler all day long.

We’ve sent out our Christmas cards:

Side note: For once, I had the genius idea of using our wedding thank you cards to let Laney “help” with the Christmas card stuffing. I knew I saved those for a reason! 🙂

We’ve done our final shopping errands.

We’ve checked out some Christmas lights:

We’ve done ALL the fun Christmas crafts:

We visited Daddy at work:

And the day is FINALLY almost here. As we say goodbye to Snowflake the Elf and hello to Christmas Eve, so much excitement, anticipation, and love. I get misty-eyed just thinking about the magic about to unfold – especially when I think about the greatest Christmas miracle we were blessed with four years ago. Makes this time of year that much more special (read: emotional) for me. 😉 I am not sure who is most excited in this house, but I know I certainly can’t wait! May your homes be filled with love and happiness the next couple of days as we celebrate the greatest gift of all.

5.5.15 – House Updates

5 May

If you are not interested in what our house looks like, you can skip this post. I love reading blogs that share interior design ideas and where to find items, so I thought I would share too. And I wanted to share with our family who might be curious about how we’ve been spending every spare minute of our time the past 5 months. 🙂

We moved into this house with a 3-month-old Laney a week before Christmas over 2 years ago. To say we just threw stuff up on the walls and into closets is an understatement. We love this house, but I have been trying to convince Kyle ever since that we need to make a few tweaks to make our house “ours.” I had put so much time and effort into making our first house a home before we moved to Philly, and I wanted to do the same for this one. I was really struggling with where to start. After a few failed attempts at configuring our main living space, we decided it would be our starting point. We also decided to call in some reinforcements.

Enter Kat from Studio Ryn Designs. If you are looking for some interior design help, she is amazing! She is fabulous at picking paint colors/accents, working within your budget, and answering billions of questions (from indecisive people like me). 😉 As soon as we started putting her design plan into action, Kyle was hooked. And I was happy. 🙂

(Disclaimer: I am not a residential photography expert, and these are unedited due to lack of spare time.)

Most of the accessories you see were purchased at Target, West Elm, Crate & Barrel, TJ Maxx and Hobby Lobby.

One of my favorite new additions is our Lovely People custom illustration.

I also found a place for my 365 days of Laney project.

We loved our new living space so much, we decided to make a few minor tweaks to the dining room. I am normally not a curtain person, but I love these!

We went bold in the bathroom. The chevron stencil was not enjoyable to apply, but is fun to look at now that it is finished!

Finally, we added a few finishing touches to the kitchen/mudroom.

Be You Bravely | Prayer Sign | Baskets – Target | Picture Holder – IKEA

I have been excited to update Laney’s room to a “big girl” room for a long time. I knew I wanted it to a be a space that would last her well past her toddler years. I found the bedding first and went from there. We painted three of her walls and left her chalkboard wall – since Daddy put so much working into painting it. 😉 We had an old dresser that we wanted to repurpose, so we painted that using the same color as the walls on the drawers and a darker shade on the rest. I had trouble finding new knobs, but I think the ones we used turned out pretty good. The crate bookshelf was a bit of a labor of love (just don’t look too close at the paint job), but she loves having all of the compartments to rearrange and loves looking at the photos of her favorite people. The unfinished crates were purchased at Home Depot – I stained the outside and painted the insides. Just pretend the curtains are longer when you look at the pictures. 😉

Teepee Garland | You’re So Loved | Other Prints | Letters | Canvas – Hobby Lobby | Baskets – Target and Pottery Barn Kids

Frames – Kohls, Target, Gordmans, Hobby Lobby, IKEA

Well, that’s it! I get tired just looking at all of it. 🙂 Hope you’ve enjoyed a little peek at all of our projects!

9.20.14 – Delaney’s 2nd Birthday Party

21 Sep

I am pretty late in posting Laney’s birthday party recap. This fall has been busier than I ever imagined it would be when I started my little photography business almost a year ago, which is great! (Except when it comes to finding time to blog about our family happenings….)

We decided to have a book-themed birthday when we noticed how much Laney LOVES books. Most little ones her age do, of course, but she will spend hours a day pulling them off her shelf, looking through them, asking us to read them, “reading” them herself, etc. I merged a few ideas I saw on various party-planning blogs and got some help from QT Prints (who is fabulous to work with!) for her invite. And the stars aligned when Laney was super cooperative on a beautiful evening to capture some of my favorite photos of her. And here is the result:

Delaney Front with Bleed

The inside of the card had all of the party details on a “library card.” I got little library card holders to put them in and stuck them on the inside of the folded invite.

The rest of the party kinda came together when I saw the Oh Joy! Target party supply line for fall had teal, pink, black, white, and gold. I quickly snatched up what our local target had and used that as my color scheme.

Here are some photos from the rest of the decor.

I did my best to go a little more low-key than last year, and I reused several items from previous events. I got some fun engraved pencils from Earmark. The book page garlands are from Yellow Bird, Yellow Beard. Everything else I made myself or purchased from Target.

And here are some photos of the birthday girl and family. Laney’s adorable shirt is from Swallow’s Return. And her book page flower bow is from Maisey’s Daisey’s.

She did pretty well despite a few melt-down moments. She was hesitant to blow out her candle but did it all by herself. But she didn’t even want her cupcake after talking about cake all day! We were pretty disappointed in them. Our usual bakery closed, and these were a let-down. She loved opening presents. If it was clothes, they got tossed straight over her head. The toys had to be immediately opened. Our family and friends were too generous as usual – she is one spoiled little girl.

Thank you, friends and family, for making her day so special! Another year in the books!

3.3.14 – Messy Monday

3 Mar

Hello, March! So glad you could bring us more snow this weekend…NOT!

February was a rough month for me. I’ve had a lovely back spasm turned sciatica that has caused a lot of tears, lack of sleep, and frustration. Being in pain makes being the primary caretaker of toddler very challenging emotionally and physically. I’ve been feeling some mom guilt lately. Social media doesn’t help. I would look at pictures of moms fighting cabin fever with fun, creative activities while I was struggling to hobble  walk around the house. I knew in my head I was doing my best, but that mom guilt is a tough thing to shake. I’m happy to report that I no longer want to cut my right leg off. My pain is lower and spirits higher this week (thanks to a Mimi visit, some pain pills, and an appointment with a specialist). I have resolved that March will be happier and more fun.

This isn’t a sympathy post, but I wanted to explain why I went the extra mile for fun this Monday morning. And I wanted to let you know that this toddler paint recipe is super easy to make and clean (1/2 c baby wash; 1/4 c corn starch; drop of food coloring). I always like to avoid Pinterest fails when possible, so I figured other moms would appreciate knowing this pin is a keeper. Cue the pics of Laney have some messy fun!

Of course she liked the clean-up process better than the painting. (Definitely inherited my clean-freak gene!)

And a quick weekend recap:

We had fun playing with Mimi on Friday.

2.21.14 – Week in Review

21 Feb

Just a quick post tonight as we are visiting Kyle’s family and friends this weekend.

We had a fun week getting back into our activities after the crazy snow storms we have been having. Laney and I attend two different music classes and a Mom’s morning out program during the week to keep us from getting cabin fever. Plus we have swim classes with Daddy twice a week, which Laney loves despite the very cold water!

But most importantly (to me anyway) I got a new camera this week, and I have had so much fun trying it out and getting used to the new set-up. There are so many reasons it is better than the one I have, and I can’t wait to use it for portraits for my business.

Therefore, the main reason for my post is to share some of the pics I took this week. 🙂

Happy weekend, everyone!
