8.18.17 – Summer Reflections

18 Aug

There are so many pros and cons to social media. It can make us feel more connected, but it can also make us feel less than. Comparison is the thief of joy, as they say, and it’s easy to start comparing ourselves to others. We tend to put our best out on the interwebs, and it’s easy to forget that those moments are just a snapshot of a person’s day. Everyone has struggles just like you.

I caught myself in one of these comparison spirals this summer. As I saw everyone marking items off of their summer bucket lists full of fun, I was struggling to get myself showered and dressed before 3:00 PM. It was mid July, and I started feeling bad that Laney hadn’t been to the pool or to the library for the summer reading program or to any parks or to the lake…

But I stopped myself. There were lots of things we had done! I hosted and arranged one million play dates to keep Laney busy and give her some social time. We went on an airplane to the beach for a week, made road trips to visit family, attended summer music class, walked on the new trail by our house, and played on the slip-and-slide. She went fishing with Daddy and attended circus camp and VBS. We had dinners with friends. I even took all three kids to the library and to Target the other day, and we all survived!

Then Mimi and Annie came to visit and we finally made it to the pool and even went to the county fair! Laney declared that was the best day!

Last week we made a final summer road trip to Indiana for a swim and a trip to the Indianapolis Children’s Museum.

And I reminded myself…it’s OK for her to be bored once in awhile. I tried my best to create a few fun memories while also doing what was best for the boys. She’s learning about being a big sister (and she’s an amazing one!). That sometimes we have to do what is best for someone else in the family for awhile. It’s a short phase, and this is one summer of many. And it was a pretty darn good one!

5.30.17 – Memorial Day Weekend

30 May

We had a really fun Memorial Day weekend at Grandpa and Mimi’s house. The weather wasn’t as warm as we had hoped, but we didn’t let that stop us from enjoying some time together poolside.

By the end of the weekend, Laney was swimming like a little fish – jumping off the diving board, going under water, and swimming without her floaties. Huge strides from last year! We were so proud of her! The boys had their first dip as well but weren’t quite sure what to think of the experience. 🙂 And no Memorial Day weekend is complete without some intense pool volleyball matches and some diving board stunts.

The boys also got to meet Great Grandma and Grandpa Minion on race day!

As the weekend came to an end, we felt refreshed but were missing our fun family time already! Hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of summer!

10.15.16 – Indiana Baby Shower

15 Oct

I had an awesome Saturday in Indiana visiting with my friends and family at my baby shower. My awesome sister-in-law and besties planned a delicious brunch, and I loved catching up with those who were able to attend. We are so blessed to be surrounded by such generous, loving family and friends! Can’t thank everyone enough! A few phone snaps from the day:

5.31.16 – Baby Logan and Memorial Weekend

31 May

We had a pretty fabulous extended Memorial Weekend. We swam and swam and swam some more. We celebrated my birthday. And my sweet, new nephew arrived on my birthday eve. It doesn’t get much better than that!

First weekend snaps:

Now welcome to the world, baby Logan! You are so loved!

5.14.16 – Kyla’s Baby Shower

14 May

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of baby Wagner around here, and we were super excited to celebrate the mama-to-be this past weekend. It was a rainy, cold day in May, but we didn’t let that stop us from showering Kyla with gifts and so.much.food! We went with the color scheme of the nursery (navy, teal, and gray) with a few bow tie touches. It’s always hard for me to decorate a space I’ve never seen before the day-of, but I still love the planning – especially when it is for someone as special as Kyla. We can’t wait to snuggle our newest nephew in a few short weeks!

12.25.15 – Merry Christmas!

25 Dec

Merry Christmas! As I was flipping through old photos, I realized this is our tenth Christmas together (time sure does fly!). And I have to say it may have been our most fun Christmas yet!

We spent a quiet Christmas Eve making final preparations for the big day. Laney was PUMPED all day long but a little concerned about her elf, Snowflake, leaving. We went to our candlelight Christmas Eve service, ate a nice dinner out, set out our cookies for Santa, and snuggled up in our new PJ’s for our long winter’s nap.

The next morning Laney woke up at her normal time and seemed to have forgotten it was the big day! Her eyes lit up when we said, “MERRY CHRISTMAS!” She asked if Santa was here (still was confused on that whole process this year). She was a bit sad about Snowflake’s departure, but she immediately perked up at the prospect at opening presents.

We had lots of fun watching her open her gifts. The favorites were her binoculars (“it’s not a camera, Mom”), her piggy bank, her play camera, and her super hero costume.

After we spent a few minutes to enjoy the new goodies, we packed up and headed to Grandpa and Mimi’s house for more Christmas fun. We had fun catching up with extended family on both sides, and Laney couldn’t get enough of opening presents and eating treats.

I tried really hard to be present in the moment this year and not caught up in capturing every detail. My only regret is not getting a a family photo of the three of us at some point, but as Kyle always says I have some great “mental pictures” of this super special Christmas.

We also have two special birthdays after Christmas. Happy birthday, Mimi and Grandpa! Laney is always available to help unwrap presents, blow out candles, and of course assist with the cake eating!

Hope you all had a magical Christmas!

12.11.15 – Christmas at the Zoo

11 Dec

Laney and I made a quick trip to Indiana to go to Christmas at the Zoo in Indianapolis with my family. Laney was WIRED and running all over the place. She absolutely loved the dolphin show and was quite upset when another little girl got to go up and pet/feed the dolphin and she didn’t. Luckily, she was able to get a hands-on experience by petting little sharks. It was a super fun night! Here are a few phone snaps:
