1.16.12 – Weekend Wrap-up

16 Jan

This weekend Kyle’s friend from high school, John, came in for a visit. We didn’t do any new site-seeing, but we had a really nice time. Our weekend included a lot of eating, football, hockey, relaxing, and catching up. We look forward to having more family and friends come visit soon!

Here are the restaurants we went to (you’ll notice a heavy dose of Italian):

Little Anthony’s for meatball sandwiches
Fellini’s for delicious pasta and cheesecake
Pinocchio’s for pizza
Media Pizza and Grill for sandwiches

I couldn’t keep up with the boys’ eating habits, so I opted out for a couple meals. ūüôā I definitely went to Fellini’s, and the cheesecake was as delicious as I remembered (and John agreed).

On to another week–hope everyone had a great weekend!

1.8.12 – Bon appetit!

8 Jan

After church today, we decided to try something different and went to La Belle Epoque, a French Wine Bistro by our house. ¬†It was a very cute place, but I wasn’t sold on the menu options. ¬†We were both pleasantly surprised – it was delicious! ¬†Kyle had the best ham and cheese sandwich ever, and I had a yummy French dip. ¬†Definitely a place to bring friends and family!

1.8.12 – Weekend Wrap-up

8 Jan

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!  The weather was absolutely beautiful here in Philly, so we had the chance to do a little exploring.  Here is a quick re-cap of our weekend:

Friday:

We ate an all-American dinner at Zac’s¬†– yummy burgers, fries, and the best part = milkshakes.

Saturday:

Kyle met up with some guys in the Delco road runners club. ¬†They ran a little quicker pace than Kyle was anticipating, but he kept up. ūüôā ¬†Jamie opted for a run at her own pace around town.

We decided to grab a quick bite to eat before our train at Lil’ Anthony’s. It was delicious, but not quick enough. ¬†We had to hustle and then run up the big hills to get to the train. ¬†We barely made it! ¬†Jamie wasn’t happy with Kyle for the necessary sprinting, since he was the one who had to make a pit-stop at the house on the way to the train. ¬†Kyle considered it “perfect timing.” ¬†ūüôā

We took the train into 30th Street Station Рthe Union Station of Philly.  We walked along the Schuylkill River Trail to get to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.  The trail was buzzing with walkers, joggers, bikers, and roller-bladers.  We even saw a roller-blade club take off on their Saturday morning skate.

Of course, our first priority at the museum was to find the Rocky statue. ¬†Then we climbed the famous steps and snapped many pictures of the¬†beautiful¬†architecture and scenery. ¬†We enjoyed trying out our new camera. ¬†We ventured into the museum and checked out a wide variety of art including the prints and sketches, American, modern and contemporary, and armor and weapons sections. ¬†We did not even come close to seeing everything. ¬†It was neat to see original art by people we had heard of like Picasso, Monet, Chagall, etc. ¬†Jamie’s favorite section was the Presidential china. ¬†They had plates that Presidents like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln used. ¬†Kyle really enjoyed the armor section. ¬†The museum is beautiful and HUGE, but we both decided art isn’t really our “thing.” ¬†We headed back to the train and relaxed the rest of the weekend – we were exhausted!

Here are some pictures:

Our first adventure of 2012 is in the books! ¬†We had a lot of fun, and we hope y’all had a great weekend too!

1.4.12 – Brrrr!

4 Jan

It is a little bit chilly here in the Northwest today – actually a lot bit chilly. ¬†Since we don’t have a lot of desire to be outside today, we thought we would give you a little update. ¬†Jamie’s internship that was supposed to start this week got delayed to next week, so classes and internship start next week for her. ¬†She is enjoying the last few days of house chores, errands and relaxation before paper writing and logging hours begins. ¬†The final car inspection is being done today, so we will have two legal vehicles to drive in PA by the end of the day (very exciting!).¬†Kyle is back to work. ¬†He is really learning a lot and enjoying it.

Yesterday, Kyle was able to get away from work to meet Jamie for lunch, and we ate at Harvest.  He had tried it once before with some co-workers.  It is a farm-to-table restaurant.  They purchase their ingredients from local farms to create all organic, healthy dishes.  Almost all of the menu options are under 500 calories, and they are delicious!  The best part is the prices are very reasonable.  We will definitely eat there again!

Yesterday evening, we met up with our New Year’s Eve pals at TIME¬†in downtown Philly for a Socially Conscious Philadelphia¬†(SCP) event. ¬†Our friends started the group to combine two of our favorite things – getting together with friends and doing good for others. ¬†TIME was a fun little Jazz bar, and we had a great time. ¬† We are excited to have met such nice and welcoming people (thanks to Katie and Kevin!) and are already looking forward to their next event.

Happy Hump-day everyone! ¬†Stay warm ūüôā

1.2.12 – The Closet Fiasco of 2012

2 Jan

Oh the joys of home ownership… I mean, rentership. ¬†After ringing in the new year in Philly, we arrived home to find this:

Either we have too many clothes or our closet was not installed properly – I like to think it is the latter. ūüôā ¬†Needless to say, we spent New Year’s Day re-installing our closet. ¬†After a day of drilling and installing a not-quite-level shelf, I am proud to say it has stayed up for 24 hours.

Fingers crossed that it stays up for good!

1.2.12 – Happy New Year!

2 Jan

We rang in 2012 in Philly this year.  We had considered going to NYC, but we decided against it for a couple of reasons:

1. We were a little over traveling after our journey to the Midwest.

2. We need to make new friends. ūüôā

So we started the night at our neighbor’s house who was nice enough to invite the “new kids” over and enjoyed meeting a few of our neighbors. ¬†Then, we took the train downtown and headed to South Philly. ¬†Kyle’s friend Katie from college invited us to a friend’s house, and we had a really great time. ¬†The train ride home was entertaining to say the least.

We thought about heading to the Mummers parade back in Philly on Sunday, but opted for sleep and watching it on TV instead.  We will definitely have to check it out live next year.

Happy New Year! ¬†Wishing everyone lots of blessings for 2012! ¬†I know we can’t wait to see what adventures this year brings.

With Love,

The Potts

1.2.12 – A Very Midwestern Christmas

2 Jan

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!  We traveled back to the Midwest for a brief but wonderful visit with both sides of the family.  Here are a few pictures from the trip:

It was great to see family – we are very blessed!
