6.13.12 – A Mobile for Baby

13 Jun

After I finished my final grad school assignments, I made two goals for myself for the rest of the summer:

1. Complete one craft project per week

2. Practice photography or Photoshop skills at least once per week

And whether you want to read about it or not, I’m going to blog about my progress to keep myself accountable. 😉

Yesterday was a super rainy, dreary day in PA, so I decided to take advantage of the crappy weather to complete my first craft project. I’ve been searching Etsy for a mobile for our baby girl’s room, and I have seen several that I liked. However, I found this tutorial the other day on Pinterest, and I decided I wanted to create my own mobile.

First I gathered my supplies (doily flowers purchased here, felt balls, beads, and buttons) :

Then I used an embroidery hoop, jewelry wire, and ribbon to create the top:

Then I added some flair to the doilies and felt balls and hung them on different colors of embroidery string:

Finally, with a lot of patience and trial-and-error I put it all together.

Here is my finished product:

It pretty much took me the whole day, and although I can’t claim I came up with the idea all by myself, I am pretty proud of how it turned out. I hope our baby girl enjoys it! 🙂 Thanks to Suburbia Soup for the tutorial!
